Ventio helps prevent young people and young adults from entering a criminal path and ending up in a cycle of crime. We achieve this by identifying early signs of criminal behavior development and intervening.
Ventio conducts scientific research into the origins of criminal behavior and develops innovative prevention and intervention programs. Through our research, advice, and training, we serve as a partner for youth care institutions, social work, government agencies, and law enforcement.
Knowledge Deficit
Currently, approaches to juvenile delinquency mainly focus on terminating criminal behavior. Ventio believes that prevention is more effective. This requires understanding signals indicating future criminal behavior, knowledge that is currently lacking or fragmented. Another issue is the frequent underestimation of these signals.
Preventive Approach
Through our research, we have insights into factors that predict future criminal behavior to varying degrees. This allows us to halt the development of problem behavior before it has a chance to persist and escalate. In addition to reducing risk factors, our preventive approach involves promoting protective and inhibiting factors.

About Us
Ventio CPSI, or simply Ventio, is an independent research and advisory center focused on criminal behavior among young people and young adults. We conduct scientific research into the origins of criminal behavior and develop innovative prevention and intervention programs.

Mission and Vision
Through our groundbreaking research and innovative programs, we assist governments, agencies, and institutions in addressing (youth) crime. Ventio aims to contribute to a safer society while also reducing the societal costs of crime. We believe that when it comes to crime, prevention is better than cure. We are convinced that problem behavior can be anticipated and, with the right approach, nipped in the bud.
Here’s a summary of our beliefs:
- Science, clinical practice, and policymakers should collaborate more effectively in preventing crime.
- It is better to assist young people early on than to wait until situations escalate.
- Focusing on positive aspects and protective factors is essential.
- Every young person has a talent that should be discovered and nurtured.
- The earlier risk factors are identified, the sooner they can be reduced and protective factors encouraged.
- Research must be translated more effectively and swiftly into clinical practice and innovative treatment methods.
- Interventions should be tailored to the individual wishes, needs, and interests of young people.
Services
Ventio engages in research, advisory services, and training. Scientific research forms the foundation of our work. Through advice and training, we bridge the gap between the academic field and practical applications. Our services target youth care institutions, social work, government agencies, and municipalities.

We conduct groundbreaking scientific research on new interventions for juvenile offenders. This research can inform forensic and clinical care, providing new tools for addressing youth crime. To facilitate the implementation of new treatment methods in clinical practice, we work closely with policymakers and care professionals.
Additionally, we offer comprehensive analyses of juvenile delinquents to unravel prevalence rates, patterns, recidivism rates, and the effectiveness of current and new treatment methods. We also develop projects in collaboration with municipalities and police to better understand and prevent crime and treatment challenges.

We provide advice on the treatment of juvenile delinquents, the prevention of youth crime, and the implementation of interventions.
To offer a complete insight into the protective and risk factors for each young person, we consider their home situation, personal and criminal history, and other relevant factors. With this personalized analysis, we can recommend the most suitable tailored treatment.
Our close ties with Radboud University and various forensic youth institutions place us in a unique position to translate scientific innovations into clinical practice.

We offer training sessions and workshops for social workers, youth care providers, and police officers on the biopsychosocial approach to youth crime. This approach not only examines biomedical aspects but also considers psychological and social factors that significantly contribute to the development of problem behavior. Understanding the psyche of young offenders is crucial for learning new techniques to engage with them and to address potentially dangerous situations more effectively.
